What fun! Get to travel down memory lane, at least part of the way, with you, Emese.I never say either Muyil or Chumyaxche? spelling? It is GORGEOUS second time around. Very different --and I look forward to your route as you head inland!
Thank you, Jeanine! Yes, I thought you might remember at least some of the same places I've traveled through... Muyil was little-known at the time, though close to Tulum...
And I didn’t even know about Muyil back then! I was kinda kidding about being stuck at the beach—more like we were glued to it ): You guys really got around. Jeff had been there before, right? Was “Lost World” part of his guide book on sites?
Yes, he went there before; and yes, the "Lost World" was one of his guide books, another was the "Silver Cities", at least for that area; but mostly the "Incidents of Travel"; also we watched documentaries and he had quite a collection of books about the ancient Maya; he also went to one of the Maya Weekends at the Penn Museum - and met Linda Schele (!) there (I was so jealous, she was such an inspiration!), so he knew a lot about the ruins, and since I got excited about them from (his) books I was reading, we were searching for all the ruins within driving distance from Cancun - some he visited for the first time with me.
This is great armchair travel!
Thank you, Rachel!

You caught at the right time!! Glad you got there. We were not that aware of smaller sites and got ‘stuck’ at those white sand beaches! Duh!
I’m not surprised. The beaches were gorgeous! And easy to get to. :)

The change in the temple from the first pic to second was nuts! I know I told you this last week, but I'm loving this series 🫶🏻
Thank you so much, Rachel! <3 Yes, we've seen similar changes over the years in many of the sites. It is always amazing!
